Sustainability & Livability

With almost all the properties that we manage, in particular with one of the properties being managed by us, the following measures were put in to;

  • Inform residents of the rebates and incentives they can personally avail themselves of by means of posting flyers on the noticeboard, dropping flyers in all residents’ letterboxes, including information in your newsletters, including a special section in your resident handbook, providing links on the OC website,
  • Review and make changes to the bylaws and consider how they can help residents.
  • Create a communication forum with the residents and non-resident owners through regular newsletters, Google groups, Facebook, the OC website, a resident handbook etc
  • Establish a subcommittee to address common property and in-apartment sustainability to set & work towards building targets for such things as energy and water consumption, keeping residents continually notified of the progress being made by making it easier for your residents to recycle – not just paper, cans and bottles, but also:
  • Organic waste
  • E-waste
  • Chemical waste
  • Batteries
  • Provide secure bicycle racks, cages or lockers
  • Printer cartridges
  • Mobile phones
  • Compact fluorescent globes
  • Unwanted household items
  • informed of Car share schemes
  • operating in the area

Platinum strata recognises five key qualifiers for green-rated buildings:

  • energy efficiency
  • water conservation
  • reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
  • pollution prevention

Platinum recommends utilizing National Australian Built Environment (NABERS) rating system to establish
the operational value Ratings of all large buildings under management to ascertain an accurate assessment of energy consumption, which can be used to assess operational costs in a competitive
market.
